Leftover homemade pop tarts? Store them like this:
Storing homemade brown sugar pop tarts with pie crust properly will help maintain their freshness and flavor. Here's how you can do it:
- Cool Completely: Allow the homemade pie crust pop tarts to cool completely at room temperature before storing them. This prevents condensation from forming inside the storage container, which could make the pastries soggy.
- Air-Tight Container: Transfer the cooled homemade pop tarts with pie crust to an air-tight container. You can use a plastic container with a tight-fitting lid or a resealable plastic bag. Make sure the container is clean and dry before adding the Pop-Tarts.
- Layering: If you need to stack the pie crust pop tarts on top of each other in the container, place a sheet of parchment paper or wax paper between the layers. This prevents them from sticking together and preserves their appearance.
- Room Temperature or Refrigerator: Homemade pop tarts with pie crust can be stored at room temperature for 2-3 days if they are filled with shelf-stable ingredients like fruit preserves. However, if they contain perishable fillings such as cream cheese or fresh fruit, it's best to store them in the refrigerator. They will keep for about 5-7 days in the fridge.
- Freezing (Optional): If you want to extend the shelf life of your homemade Pop-Tarts, you can freeze them. Wrap each individual pastry tightly in plastic wrap or aluminum foil, then place them in a freezer-safe container or resealable freezer bag. Frozen homemade Pop-Tarts can last for up to 2-3 months.
- Thawing: When you're ready to enjoy a frozen pie crust pop tart, simply remove it from the freezer and let it thaw at room temperature for about 30 minutes, or heat it in a toaster oven for a few minutes until warmed through.
