Chex Mix Muddy Buddies, also known as Puppy Chow, is a sweet snack made from Chex cereal coated in a mixture of chocolate, peanut butter, butter, and powdered sugar.

The cereal is typically combined with the melted chocolate and peanut butter mixture, then coated with powdered sugar to give it a sweet and slightly powdery texture. It's a popular treat for parties, gatherings, or just as a tasty snack!

    Muddy Buddies

Instead of using the Chex mix cereal, this recipe uses mini oreos and Ritz bitz!

Huge peanut butter fan? Me too. Check out this crispy peanut butter cookie or double stuffed peanut butter cups.

Ingredients - Chex Mix Muddy Buddies with Oreos and Ritz

    • Mini Oreos
    • Ritz Bits
    • Creamy Peanut Butter
    • Butter
    • Chocolate Chips
    • Powdered Sugar

    See recipe card for quantities.

    Instructions

    1. Into large bowl, measure Oreos and Ritz; set aside.
    2. In a microwavable bowl, microwave chocolate chips, peanut butter and butter uncovered on High 1 minute; stir. Microwave about 30 seconds longer or until mixture can be stirred smooth. Pour mixture over Oreos and Ritz, stirring until evenly coated. Pour into a large food storage container with lid.
    3. Add powdered sugar. Seal container; shake until well coated. Spread on waxed paper to cool. Store in airtight container.

Hint: Some of the Oreos and Ritz Bits will stick together, forming little clusters. It's okay! If you don't like the clusters, pull apart and dip in powder sugar to reduce clumping.

    Storage

    1. Allow the Muddy Buddies to cool completely after preparing them. This prevents condensation from forming inside the storage container, which could make them soggy.
    2. Transfer the cooled Muddy Buddies to an airtight container or resealable plastic bag. Ensure that the container or bag is completely sealed to prevent air from getting in.
    3. Store the Muddy Buddies at room temperature in a cool, dry place. Avoid storing them in areas where they might be exposed to heat or sunlight, as this could cause the chocolate to melt or the powdered sugar to become sticky.
    4. If you live in a warm climate or during hot summer months, you may want to store the Muddy Buddies in the refrigerator to prevent the chocolate from melting. However, be aware that refrigeration can sometimes cause the powdered sugar coating to dissolve or become less crisp.
    5. Before serving, allow the Muddy Buddies to come to room temperature if they've been refrigerated. This will help restore their texture and flavor.

By following these steps, you can keep your Muddy Buddies fresh and delicious for several days. Enjoy!
