Three ingredients, ten minutes, and it actually tastes like something you'd want seconds of, that's rare territory for a zero sugar dessert.

This one went viral for good reason. It's light, fluffy, tastes like cake batter without any of the baking, and skips the sugar without skipping the flavor. The one non-negotiable step is heat treating your cake mix first, don't skip it, it's what makes this safe to eat straight out of the bowl and it's a two minute step that makes the whole thing work.

Ingredients (and why they matter)

- 1 cup Pillsbury zero sugar vanilla cake mix — this needs to be heat treated before mixing in, raw flour and cake mix aren't meant to be eaten uncooked, so this step isn't optional even though it feels like an extra step.
- 8 ounces zero sugar Cool Whip — this is your fluff base, it's what gives this dessert that light, airy texture instead of anything dense.
- 3 tablespoons Pillsbury zero sugar chocolate icing — just enough to add a chocolate swirl on top without weighing down the fluff underneath.
Equipment

- Parchment-lined baking sheet
- Mixing bowl
- Spatula
Directions
- Spread the cake mix in a thin, even layer on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Bake at 350F for 5 minutes to heat treat it. Let it cool completely before moving on, this step matters for both safety and texture.
- Once cooled, fold the cake mix into the Cool Whip until fully combined.
- Heat the chocolate icing in the microwave for just a few seconds, enough to loosen it up for spreading. You want it soft, not hot.
- Spread the icing over the top of the cool whip mixture.
- Cover and refrigerate until ready to serve.
Baker’s Notes (aka what’s actually happening)

- Heat treating the cake mix is the one step you can't skip, it's a quick bake that makes the raw mix safe to eat and it doesn't change the flavor or texture of the final fluff.
- Let the cake mix cool completely before folding it into the Cool Whip, if it's even slightly warm it'll start to melt the fluff instead of blending in clean.
- Warm the icing just enough to spread easily, if it gets too hot it'll melt into the fluff instead of sitting on top as a swirl.
